Despite having a bad reputation, carbohydrates are fundamental for a healthy diet - our body (including and especially our brain) needs glucose to function.
A common misconception is that carbs are anything that is considered “unhealthy” like cakes, pizza, huge bowls of pasta, etc. The reality is that when someone is recommended to eat carbs we're referring to quality foods that naturally contain complex carbs such as the starch and fibre found in vegetables, wholemeal cereals and flours.
There are also natural sugars such as those in fruit. If you stick to a diet where these foods are your carb source, you’ll see how easy it is to reach the allowance (that may be perceived as high) AND reach your goals, without any need for the other stuff.
