myDNA comes from a rich history of science and genetics. Our team of highly qualified clinical experts includes Geneticists, Nutrigenomics Specialists, Pharmacologists, Bioinformaticians, Genetic Counsellors and more. Between them, they have over a century’s worth of combined experience, and have analysed thousands of peer-reviewed and academic papers.
We were founded in 2007 by Australia’s first clinical geneticist, Associate Professor Les Sheffield, who has been at the forefront of genetic research since the 1980s. His vision was to use science to eliminate the guesswork and trial-and-error from prescribing medications. Since then, we’ve continued to expand our horizons and help people eliminate the guesswork from other aspects of their health and wellness, including their diet, fitness, and skincare.
However, we couldn’t come this far without taking a good look at the science behind how your genetics influence your daily life. Our dedicated clinical team is continually reviewing a broad range of scientific literature relevant to DNA testing. We look at all aspects, both for and against, to ensure that our analysis and the recommendations we make in our plans are heavily supported by strong evidence.
Thanks to our rigorous approach to research and quality control, we’re proud to boast over 99.9% accurate results using our open-array technology.
Thousands of papers reviewed
Our clinical team has reviewed over 5,000 papers, searching for evidence both for and against the influence of genetics into your health and wellness. This helps us to make air-tight recommendations to our members so they can rest assured that their plans are backed by science. They’re constantly reviewing new literature too, so as new evidence appears or becomes more credible, we can incorporate more and more into our wellness platform. They’ve also published over 100 papers, contributing to the growing worldwide knowledge of the human genome.
Our evidence rating scale
We understand that science is an ever-evolving field and that not all evidence is equal. This is why we use an evidence rating scale to make sure any piece of evidence we incorporate into the plans and recommendations we pass on to our members is sound. Our rating scale follows guidelines set by the Oxford Centre for Evidence Based Medicine. Each piece of evidence we use must achieve at least a 3-star rating on this scale.
This means all evidence must have analysed multiple case control studies and/or analyses over at least a thousand different people. And of course, we never consider non-human trials.
Our research & studies
With over a decade of experience in the genetic testing space, we’ve conducted 5 clinical studies to help find out more about how your DNA influences your lifestyle. For example, our mental health research showed that while 50% of Australians have experienced a mental health issue in their lifetime, typical mental health treatment is inadequate for two thirds of people.
Clinical Reference list
If you’re interested in taking a deeper dive into the scientific literature behind our results and plans, you can check out our list of clinical references on our website. Here, the academic literature we use to develop your personalised plans is listed, separated by category.
But is it useful in real life?
It’s one thing to understand the science behind genes, but another to see it come into play in real life! Our reviews and testimonials speak for themselves: whether it’s someone achieving their goals with DNA-powered nutrition and fitness, or finally getting on the path to healing with personalised medications.
We’re very proud of our scientific heritage, and the amount of research that goes into crafting our personalised plans. For this reason, we’re always happy to hear from customers; whether they have queries/concerns about our science, or perhaps have a story of how DNA-powered health has helped them. If you have either, please feel free to submit a ticket to our customer support team.
