While we aim to be the most comprehensive health and wellness DNA test available on the market, there are certain health aspects our tests do not analyze.
We do not perform full exome sequencing, and only look at the genes necessary to create our reports. This means we don’t analyze the entirety of your DNA, and your sample remains anonymized (and cannot be used to personally identify you).
We provide genetic information about how your body will respond to certain foods and exercises, and how you can take advantage of this information and achieve your goals. Here are some of the things our testing doesn’t cover:
Ancestry/Heritage Testing
We do not currently perform any form of ancestry or heritage testing. However, we are excited to announce that we have recently merged with FamilyTreeDNA and Gene by Gene in the United States. You can read more about this new partnership and what it could mean for our future testing here.
Disease Risk
Our tests do not report on disease risk. We do not report on your risk of things like cancer, Alzheimer’s, Celiac Disease, or Haemochromatosis. The test will also not provide any indication of prenatal or pregnancy status or diseases. However, this also means that our testing is not intended to have any implications for insurance premiums/policies, including your health and life insurance. As per our privacy policy, we will not disclose your results to any insurers, employers, or any other third parties without your explicit request.
If you have concerns about the above or need specific medical advice, we advise that you consult your doctor or healthcare practitioner.
Current vitamin/mineral/other substance levels
Our testing provides information on your body’s likely response to food, exercise, medications, and other health aspects. We do not provide any form of diagnostic results – i.e. we do not report on the current level of any vitamins, minerals or other substances in your body. This kind of result/testing should be referred by your doctor and analyzed by a suitable blood/swab test.
Paternity/Maternity Testing
We do not perform any kind of paternity or maternity testing or identify genetic matches between individuals. All DNA data we collect remains anonymous and cannot be used to identify you or compare your genetic structure to anyone else’s.
Carrier Testing
Our tests do not provide any information on whether you are a potential carrier for genetic diseases. We cannot identify whether you or your children are likely to be affected by conditions like Fragile X, Cystic Fibrosis, Sickle Cell Disease or other inherited disorders.
Note: For any medical advice or for concerns about health issues/disease risk, please consult your doctor or healthcare practitioner. Your doctor will be best poised to make specific testing recommendations and determine whether myDNA is right for you.
